April 2019 Meeting Minutes

April 2019 Meeting Minutes

  • Start time 6:15 p.m.
  • Mrs Skowron talked to the group about making a sensory walk for elementary hallways. It gives the students a brain break and helps redirect them with different activities such as jumping, wall push ups, counting, gross motor skills etc. The group voted on $2,000 for Mrs Skowron.
  • Treasures report: Middle School Dance came in $65 under budget. The Auction roughly made $24,000 this year. Deductions haven’t been taken out of this amount just yet. The bids for the event profited $18,350.00, Chinese auction was $377.55, $534.00 was for the 50/50 raffle.
  • Administration Reports: Mr Mc Glynn stated the pot holes have been filled in the front turn around. He thanked everyone on being patient with our busing routes. He is checking into raising rates to get more subs. He also thanked everyone for helping with the Auction. He appreciates PTO and everyone that worked hard at making it such a huge success. Middle school is having an end of the year picnic. Mr Mc Glynn will be grilling. Looking into other field trip options for next year instead of Philadelphia . Mrs Farelli Thanked everyone as well for the auction. She talked about Third grade testing, they do a-lot right now in the spring. It is going well! Camp Hiram is coming up. Pto helps pay for some students to go but that number is unknown right now. Teachers, parents and a nurse all go. Kindergarten registration was very successful with a record of 49 kids. They are looking into adding a 3rd classroom, more enrollment to come. Thirty six are residential families out of the 49 registered so far. A teacher would be hired to move along with that kindergarten class through the years. May 16th is second grades field trip, PTO is paying for them to go. Mrs Farelli asked PTO for help with the purchase of chrome books and a cart. In the next few years our computers will not be compatible . We are in need of two charts and 60 chrome books total. The group voted to purchase everything for $10,000. Mr Saunders said middle and high school students are scheduling classes right now. They are looking to develop more STEM, coding and career prep courses. We are doing really well with our academics so would like to focus on post secondary and ACT prep courses. Middle school picnic is May 24th. They are in need of 250 hot dogs, buns, chips and drinks. The picnic is a pat on the back for all the testing they have done.
  • Teacher Appreciation Week is May 6th- 10th. Mary Minniti is looking for volunteers.
  • Field Day for Elementary is May 31st with the rain day of June 3rd. Middle school is June 7th.
  • Special Persons Week is coming up week of May 13th. Jessica Fair asked for food ideas for the week. The Book Fair theme is Dinosaurs. People suggested using the cafeteria all week for lunches or to have the same food everyday all week.
  • Voting took place for new board members positions this meeting. Michael Gorby will be the next PTO President, Melissa Gatto and Dana Hivner will be the groups Treasures.
  • Meeting was adjourned at 7:57pm

The last PTO meeting of the year will be Monday May 20th , 6:00pm in the Lib

March 2019 Meeting Minutes

Meeting started at 6:11 pm

Administration reports:  Mrs Farelli said that 3rd graders were getting ready for their testing. They work really hard all year preparing for it.

Old business: Bedtime stories came in under budget due to a lot of donations. It was mentioned that maybe next year raising the event budget to $500 instead of $300.

Dana Hivner, Melissa Gatto, Michael & Abby Gorby put together Bedtime Stories in March. It was a really good turn out with 67 attending, Mostly K-3rd graders were there. The theme was centered around camping and the outdoors. The students enjoyed books, snacks and yoga. A naturalist came with reptiles to show the kids, it was all a big hit. Something for older kids may need to be planned separately for next year, so it interest them as well.

Mr Garner came and spoke to the group about his Engineering -Design class. The class offers the latest 3D software and 3D printing for 9-12th grades. They need one more component to complete the 3D printing learning experience. A vote to help purchase fifteen 3D computer space mouses was agreed upon.

Some members of the group would like to see a food budget set in place for events. The discussion was agreed to be tabled until the next meeting or by the end of the school year.

Melissa Gatto offered to pick up drinks for the Auction. Basket wrapping dates were discussed along with inviting and sharing our Auction event post on Facebook.

Teacher and Staff Appreciation week is coming up May 6th -10th

Special Persons Week theme is dinosaurs. Decorating will be held Monday May 13th after school. Tuesday May 14th will start with Kindergarten and 1st grades. Jessica Fair needs help with the kitchen that week. A suggestion was mentioned to have the kids vote on what food they would like to have. Ice cream bar the last day for 4th graders.

An idea was brought up to do something special for our 5th graders at the end of the year. Discussion will continue at the next meeting.

Board Elections for President and Treasurer will be held at April’s meeting.

Field day is scheduled for Friday May 31st with a make up day of June 2nd. Jessica Fair is heading the event this year and looking for new ideas.

Blue Devil Dash 5k is set for Sunday September 29th.  Mary Minniti and others would like to make it more of a community event with vendors and other fall activities.

Meeting was adjorned at 8:03 pm. The next PTO meeting will be held Monday April 15th @ 6:00pm in the Library.

A huge Thank You is in order for our hugely successful 2019 PTO Auction.  We would like to thank the following individuals, businesses, and organizations for their generous donations.  Without their support this event would not happen!!
